Tropical Smoothie

Serves: 1

Prep Time: 5 minutes

As many of us who are right in the heart of the Winter season do, while longing for warmer weather, I decided to make a smoothie inspired by a tropical beach vacation. While completely delicious and nostalgic, this smoothie is actually PACKED with nutrients and immunity boosters! Pineapple is rich in vitamin C, disease-fighting antioxidants, and contains digestive enzymes that help to ease indigestion symptoms (Raman, 2018). The orange in this smoothie aids our immunity and our gut health. Eating one orange a day covers 80% of the expected daily intake of vitamin C and contains about three grams of fiber per serving (Sass, 2021).  My gut is definitely thanking me for this smoothie after a weeklong of indulging in all things dairy, despite my intolerance. Lastly, I love to sneak protein into my smoothies in order to work towards my daily protein intake. Vital Proteins contains collagen which helps to improve skin elasticity and overall hydration (Elliott, 2020). A smoothie that is immune boosting, promotes a healthy gut, and creates glowy, youthful skin - I think we have a winner!

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana

  • 1 cup coconut milk

  • ½ of an orange, sliced

  • ½ cup frozen mango

  • ½ cup frozen pineapple

  • 1 scoop of protein powder (I used Vital Proteins collagen)

Instructions:

  1. Start by adding the liquid base (coconut milk or a substitute).

  2. Next, add in all of the fruit and a scoop of protein powder.

  3. Blend for about a minute, or until the consistency is smooth.

  4. Grab a glass, and pretend you’re on a beach while enjoying this tropical morning treat!
